In addition to the requirement for the use of social constructivism in this WebQuest design; Gardner’s multiple intelligences have also been utilised in the selection and use of ICT in this WebQuest. A brief summary of the way some of the multiple intelligences have been catered for is provided here.
Verbal Linguistic Intelligence is responsible for the production of language and all the complex possibilities that follow. In this WebQuest this intelligence is catered for through the use of both PowerPoint and video presentations. ICT tools that assist with this intelligence include word processing and publishing programs.
Logical/ Mathematical Intelligence: This intelligence involves the capacity to recognise patterns, work with numbers and geometric shapes and see connections between separate and distinct pieces of information. Although not directly catered for the use of interactive mapping resources and travel time and distance calculators provide some attention to this learning style.
Visual/ Spatial Intelligence: This intelligence deals with all things visual but also the ability to form mental pictures and images. This WebQuest caters for visual spatial learners through the use of the interactive white-board and mapping activity and Webspiration concept mapping. PowerPoint and Publisher encourage individuals to use pictures and diagrams or visual representations in their presentations thus allowing for this learning style.
Body/ Kinaesthetic Intelligence: This intelligence involves “learning by doing” and is seen through the use of the body to express or create. The video making lesson caters for these learners
Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence: Includes the capabilities recognition and use of rhythmic and tonal patterns and sensitivity to sound including voices and music. Youtube video resources and the video production activity allow these learners to be engaged.
Interpersonal Intelligence: Involves the ability to work co-operatively with others in a group as well as the ability to communicate, verbally and non-verbally, with other people. Group work and group presentation in both video and brochure activities and peer teaching in the whiteboard mapping activity will suit this learner.
Intrapersonal Intelligence: This involves the learner’s knowledge of themselves their feelings, emotions and though processes and includes self-reflection. Webspiration concept mapping and the reflection activity involving brochure creation gives this group the opportunity to express themselves.
